white hot kitchens

Per my last post, I thought I'd talk about my love for a nice, white kitchen!

Doing a white kitchen right (in my opinion) is about light, balance & color. Let me explain...

Windows that let in natural light do a huge favor to any kitchen (and especially a white one!) The more windows, the better! But, if you don't have this luxury, and only have one tiny window or no windows at all (yikes!) don't worry! Balanced lighting, no matter if it's lamps, chandeliers, sconces, cabinet lighting, etc. will almost always work... basically ANYTHING will work but cheap fluorescent lighting (gag). Get my drift? :)

When I talk about balance, this could should apply to every room in the house and the kitchen is no exception. Don't clutter the counter tops, island and table with too much junk; a few nice pieces of decor and some greatly used appliances will do.

Color. This can make or break a room. Make sure the colors in the room flow. The main features of the kitchen need to coordinate and flow well. In other words, make sure the cabinets, counter tops, back splash, walls and appliances all flow nicely. Too many colors, patters and textures can look dizzying and mismatched and adding on bad decor can only worsen the problem. So make sure the heart of the room is all together first before you start decorating.
